Common Questions
Brush hogging mows and chops vegetation at or near ground level — it is ideal for tall grass, weeds, and light woody stems up to about 3–4 inches diameter. Land clearing involves removing trees, stumps, and heavy brush, usually with mulchers or bulldozers. For heavily wooded areas, land clearing is required; for overgrown fields, brush hogging is faster and more affordable.
Most rural and semi-rural Oregon properties benefit from twice-annual brush hogging — once in late spring after peak growth, and once in late summer before fire season. Properties with aggressive invasive species like tansy ragwort may need 3–4 passes per year.
A brush hog will cut blackberry canes at ground level and significantly reduce the thicket, but it will not kill the root system. Annual brush hogging keeps blackberry manageable. For complete eradication, forestry mulching with root excavation is required.
