— Common Questions
The questions Portland property owners ask us most often, answered directly and honestly.
Land clearing costs in Portland range from $1,500 for a small urban residential lot with light vegetation to $15,000+ for large wooded acreage. Key cost factors include property size, tree density and diameter, slope and access, and whether you choose forestry mulching (no haul-away, lower cost) or cut-and-haul. We provide free, detailed written quotes after a site visit — and we don’t change the price after we start.
If you’re within City of Portland limits and have trees 12 inches or larger in diameter (measured at 4.5 ft height), you likely need a Type I or Type II Tree Removal Permit from Portland Urban Forestry. Fees run $175–$250 and processing takes 10–15 business days. Our ISA Certified Arborists handle this for every applicable project — we identify permit requirements during the site assessment and manage the application at no extra charge.
Most projects are scheduled within 3–7 business days after quote approval. During peak season (spring and fall), lead times can extend to 2–3 weeks. If you have a construction start date or deadline, tell us during the quote process and we’ll do everything possible to accommodate your timeline. Emergency situations — storm damage, safety hazards — are prioritized for same-day or next-day response.
Forestry mulching uses a single machine to cut, grind, and spread vegetation in one pass — trees and brush become organic mulch that stays on-site. Traditional land clearing involves separate felling, piling, and burning or hauling steps. Mulching is faster, cheaper for most properties, produces no burning emissions, and leaves a protective ground cover that prevents erosion. For construction projects requiring a completely clean pad, cut-and-haul or combination approaches may be more appropriate — we’ll advise you honestly during the quote.
Yes. We operate under Oregon CCB License #206934, carry $2M general liability insurance, and maintain OSHA 30-hour certification for all lead crew members. We’re happy to provide our certificate of insurance directly to you, your GC, or your lender before any work begins. Oregon law requires CCB licensing for all land clearing and grading contracts over $2,000 — always verify this before hiring any contractor.
